Akoko Val Welcomes Baby Boy After Emergency C-Section

Nairobi: Celebrity chef Akoko Val is now a mother of two. She has welcomed a baby boy, and she has shared why her delivery ended in an emergency C-section.

She did it the way she shares most things, on camera. In a detailed Instagram video, she took fans through the hours before her son was born.

Hours of labour, then a sudden change

Akoko had hoped for a vaginal birth. Her husband was with her, and she spent long hours in labour. But progress was slow. Her cervix had opened only to six centimetres.

Then came the worry. The baby's heart rate began to rise and fall. Her doctor looked at both her progress and the baby's heart rate, then advised surgery. The aim, she said, was to "bring our baby boy safely into the world."

It was not the birth she had planned. Still, it ended well. Mother and baby are doing fine, and the family has a new member to celebrate. Mpasho earlier reported on a delivery-day video dated September 17.

Friends and fans react

Messages poured in. Fans and fellow celebrities flooded her pages with congratulations and wished her a smooth recovery.

Actress and creator Jacky Vike, known as Awinja, joined in with a joke. She congratulated Akoko and promised to show up with a new blue cooking pot. For a chef, that is the perfect baby gift.

Another follower, Rose Husna, was amused that Akoko could speak English while in labour. Many others also laughed along.

Akoko's video shows how fast a birth plan can change. A mother can labour for hours and still need surgery if doctors see a risk to the baby. By sharing both the long labour and the sudden turn, she gave followers an honest look at that reality.

Her fans have followed her pregnancy for months. She announced it in June, and on July 3 she shared a gender reveal on Instagram that left her in tears. Now the baby boy is here, and her followers are celebrating with her.
